Verdict

Calais to Lyon costs €76.30 in tolls for a car in 2026, in three sections.

Visa and Mastercard work at the booths on the VINCI network. The A13 and A14 to Normandy have no booth at all, so you pay online within 72 hours.

Drive Calais to Lyon and back and the barriers take €152.60 before you have bought a litre of fuel.

The price depends on the section, not on a flat rate, so the only reliable figure is the operator's own table. Every price below comes from the 2026 tables of Sanef, SAPN, APRR, AREA and VINCI Autoroutes, for a car (class 1).

Budget €76.30 From Calais to Lyon

Calais to Lyon by way of Reims is three sections. Sanef charges €26.60 from Calais (Setques) to Reims (Courcy). Between Courcy and Taissy you pay nothing, and Sanef's next section, Reims Est (Taissy) to Charmont, is €11.90. APRR then charges €37.80 from Charmont to Villefranche-Limas, just north of Lyon.

That is €76.30 one way. Going by Paris instead costs €25.20 to Chamant, north of Paris, and €41.30 from Fleury-en-Bière, south of Paris, to Villefranche-Limas: €66.50, but with the drive across Paris in between.

Lyon – Bellegarde, for GenevaBeynost → Bellegarde (A42, A40)€13.10

The last stretch from Bellegarde to Geneva is not in this price. Orange to Nice is not here either: the operator's table could not be matched reliably, so I'd rather leave it out than guess.

For a route of your own, with fuel and vignettes added, use the trip cost calculator. The Mont-Blanc and Fréjus tunnels have their own prices: see the Alpine tunnels.

How to Pay Tolls in France: Card at the Booth

On the VINCI Autoroutes network (the A7 and A8 to Marseille and Nice, and the A10 to Bordeaux), the booths take CB, Visa and Mastercard, and contactless works at every toll. Cash works too: coins and notes of €5, €10 and €20.

VINCI warns that cards issued in some countries outside Europe are refused. If your card is from outside Europe, carry euro notes as a back-up.

Pay the A13 and A14 Gantries Within 72 Hours

The A13 and A14 between Paris and Normandy have no booths. A camera reads the plate, and you pay online at sanef.com within 72 hours. The A79 in the Allier and the Boulay interchange on the A4 work the same way.

Miss the deadline and a €90 surcharge follows, cut to €10 if you pay within 15 days. Deadlines, fines and how to pay are on the free-flow page. I'd pay the same evening.

Fit a French Toll Tag Only if You Drive Through Often

A French toll tag on the windscreen opens the t lanes at the barriers and pays the free-flow sections for you. For one holiday, a bank card does the same job at the booth.

What the badges cost, and when one is worth it: toll badges.

Expect a Small Rise Each Year

The 2026 prices took effect on 1 February. They rose by 0.86% on average: 0.94% on APRR, 0.95% on AREA, 0.62% on ASF and Escota, 0.70% on Sanef, 1% on SAPN and 1.21% on Cofiroute.

On Calais to Lyon, a rise that size is well under a euro. VINCI re-issued its ASF tables on 1 June 2026; the Lyon–Marseille and Paris–Bordeaux prices above are its 1 February main-route figures.

Budget €76.30 for Calais to Lyon and €41.30 for Paris to Lyon, and pay the Normandy gantries within 72 hours. Every price on this page was read from the operator's own 2026 table and checked again on 10 October 2026.
