Alpine Tunnel Tolls 2026: Mont-Blanc, Fréjus, Great St Bernard, Brenner and Arlberg

Checked 8 October 2026 on each tunnel operator's own tariff page or ASFINAG's own announcement · skynomad

Verdict

France to Italy through the mountain costs €55.50 one way by Mont-Blanc or Fréjus, and a return bought together is €69.20.

On both, the return ticket is valid for 7 days, so a week's trip that comes back through the same tunnel pays €69.20 rather than two singles at €111.00. Neither tunnel takes French toll badges: pay at the booth. Austria's tunnels and the Brenner charge per trip on top of the vignette.

Winter rules on the way in

The Austrian winter rule applies to every road in the country, not only the tunnels: winter tyres country by country. Mountain passes are on Alpine passes: open or closed?

Tunnel tolls and the vignette

In Austria the Arlberg, Karawanken and Tauern tunnels and the Brenner section are a separate toll: the motorway vignette does not cover them. In Switzerland the motorways need the CHF 40 vignette; the Great St Bernard tunnel charges its own toll at the booth. Italy's motorways charge by distance at a barrier: how barrier tolls work.

Road trips that use these tunnels: Lyon to Alba and the Italian lakes (Mont-Blanc out, Fréjus back) and over the Brenner to Verona and Lake Garda.
