Buy the e-matrica at nemzetiutdij.hu before the motorway; Hungary charges a surcharge instead of a fine, and it more than triples after 60 days.

A day costs HUF 5,550. Without one, the surcharge is HUF 27,790 if you pay within 60 days and HUF 95,730 after that.

Hungary's motorway vignette, the e-matrica, is digital and tied to your number plate. It is sold by the national toll company at nemzetiutdij.hu.

The annual national e-matrica runs for the calendar year, not 365 days from the day you buy it.

For a car up to 3.5 tonnes, prices as checked on 3 October 2026. The annual national e-matrica runs for the calendar year (to 31 January of the next), not 365 days from purchase.

Pay the Surcharge Within 60 Days if You Are Caught

Hungary works on a surcharge instead of a fine. It is HUF 27,790 if you pay within 60 days and HUF 95,730 after that: paying late costs HUF 67,940 more.
